Airport Pavements
Airports/Airport Pavements
Airport pavements include runways, taxiways, taxi lanes and aircraft parking aprons. These pavements are designed to support aircraft loads and must provide long-term performance and durability. In addition to supporting heavy loads, airfield pavements must be built to withstand weather conditions and deteriorating affects. Using geotextiles in airfield pavements improves structural and functional performance, increases design life, and decreases future maintenance. The FAA recommends use of geotextiles for airport pavement designs as outlined in its advisory circular Airport Pavement Design and Evaluation. Geotextiles can be used in new airport pavement designs and in airport pavement rehabilitation projects.
